| Modern house with traditional plasters |

Modern architecture seems to have found its way to using soft natural materials to contrast and compliment glass and steel for some very stunning effects, lime plasters as well as clay plasters now have their place in this particular sector in the world of architecture.
Frank Lloyd Wright, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier, Oscar Niemeyer, Alvar Aalto, Walter Gropius and Louis I Kahn, all architects with great influence on the modernist movement, who shaped a lot of the underlying frame work for how modern architecture today is created, and will most likely continue to inspire for many years to come.
Modern architecture is said to make up only 1 % of the total ammount of houses drawn by architects in the USA, and I am guessing that the percentage is even lower here in Southwest Colorado. Architect Steve Gates is an architect in Durango Colorado who specializes in this field and have Drawn and built many projects well worthy of being featured in Dwell Magazine, we have plastered several of his projects including this one. I am only posting a couple of pictures now, as the home owners are not fully moved in yet.
Here in Durango plastering has been a part of construction for many years, from adobe houses to old historic hotels, and as you can see here even in super modern homes. In this house we had several assignments, the main one was to plaster and add mass to a mass wall / trombe wall running east west through half the length of the house as a part of a passive solar design, we also plastered a focus wall or accent wall with a texture made to mimic the views of big open stretches of sage brush, grass and mountains seen from the house.
