Textures - the the deeper visual and tactile qualities of plasters.Since the true beauty and craftsmanship of natural plasters is literally impossible to capture on photo, we have added this page to our site as a support for our gallery page. The two together will hopefully give you a better idea of what we can do for the aesthetics of your home or business. When the word texture comes up in conversation about interiors, most people think about popcorn ceilings and drywall skiptrowel finish. Fortunately we are living in a new era with a growing emphasis and appreciation for non-toxic building materials, and the handcrafted way of executing various elements of construction. With that, Hansen Handcrafted Finishes and the rest of the craftsmen working with natural finishes, are well on our way in the process of reclaiming the word in its true meaning, beauty and elegance from the drywall industry, who has somewhat monopolized it and abused it in the most crude way. Texture as a concept is a combination of many things, how the finish looks to the eye, how it reflects light, the size and shape of the aggregate in combination with the rest of the ingredients, the tools used, and the craftsmans interpretation. This texture might be rough or distressed and maybe showing the color of the base coat through the finish layer, or used to create extra depth in use with lime wash or glazes. Or it could be extremely delicate. Sometimes these almost invisible textures can be the most stunning, because you can see that the wall has life and depth, but you can not see exactly why until you get closer to the wall. Finally there is how it makes you feel when you touch it, a very underestimated factor, you always see people touching a plastered wall again and again, this never happens with a painted wall. We hope that this page will inspire you, and we also invite you to be creative in the process of working with us, and bring suggestions and or pictures of finishes you have seen in books, magazines etc. We will most certainly be able to match almost anything. |
